I was a Bible college student when one of our chapels featured a guest speaker who taught us how to speed-read. At the time I didn't need the skill since most collateral reading assignments in my courses were under 500 pages, but I started practicing just for the fun of it -- sort of like a private parlor game. However all that changed when I wound up in graduate school at Princeton Seminary and several Profs. expected me to read several thousand pages of collateral along with the five or six textbooks. That's when I got serious about speed reading. Here is the collection of what I practiced then, and picked up since. The first thing I had to do was toss away the reading myths I had held so long.

How to Fix a Wobbly Table

Steps:
1. Place the table on a hard, level surface so you can examine the source of the wobble.

2. Look at the leg that is causing the wobble. Some table legs have a glide, a round metal or plastic knob on their foot to protect floors against scratches. If the glide is missing, buy a replacement at a hardware store. This will fix the wobble.

3. If a loose joint is causing the problem, tighten any screws in the joint and secure it with wood glue. Hold the joint in place with a corner clamp while the glue dries. Or, if you don't have a clamp, wrap a length of rope tightly around the joint and another leg of the table.

I recommend this tweak. I tested it with two of my computers. The result was quite convincing.

The receive window size is the amount of data in kilobits that is received before an acknowledgement (ACK) must be sent back to the other side of the TCP connection to verify that the data was sent successfully. If the sender doesn't receive an acknowledgement in the designated interval the data must be retransmitted. This is one of the reasons that TCP is considered a connection based reliable protocol.

Macworld Lab’s tests do show that the new Intel-based iMac is faster than the iMac G5 when running native applications. However, we found that those improvements are generally much less than what Apple claims is a 2x improvement in speed.
